I'm Still Standing...

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,
it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness,
it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity
it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness,
it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair...
- Charles Dickens

That was written in 1859.
I mean...
Doesn't it somehow always fit
the times we live in?

I realized I hadn't written here
in over 2 months.
I guess the presidential election
may
or may not
have influenced that.
Probably may.
Definitely may.

I'm usually not incredibly political...
I vote my heart.
My conscience.
Regardless of 'party'.
I vote for whomever I believe
will be the best person...
for our country.

Needless to say,
I didn't vote for Donald Trump.
And while this may offend some people...
I cannot
I will not
ever understand those who did.
I will forever look at people who voted for him...
differently.
Even those I love.

That's all I'm going to say about that.
For now.
I do believe the boat will right itself
in due time...
and as karma often does
it will go around
and come all the fucking way back around.

OK then.

Let's talk about 2016.
It ended up being a shit year
didn't it?
Not really for me, personally...
I had weddings
and babies being born
and happiness and joy.
So it couldn't be ALL bad.
Election results aside...
It just ended on such a fucking bummer.
So many good, talented
wonderful people died.
Many way way (WAY) before their time.
I felt punched in the gut more than once.
The following hit me the hardest...
David Bowie
Prince
Alan RIckman
Glenn Frey
George Martin
Garry Shandling
Muhammad Ali
Anton Yelchin
Gene Wilder
Florence Henderson
George Michael
Debbie Reynolds
and most of all
Carrie Fisher

Every one of these people affected my life in some way...
Made it better.
Made me smile.
Made me think.
Carrie Fisher was somehow the most
devastating to me...
Maybe because she was flawed
She made mistakes and she owned them...
But she was brilliantly funny
and smart
and had an incredible sense of humor.
I adored her.
It hurt to say goodbye.

And what was the BEST and WORST
of this fandom in 2016?

I wish I could find something new to say.

The Best?
Kristen had a phenomenal 2016.
Critical praise.
Lots of interesting projects.
(Rolling Stone video? Who saw that one coming?)
She even directed her own short film "Come Swim"
that went to Sundance.
Girl is on fire and IN CHARGE.
Oh and to add fuel to the flames...
This girl is going to be on Saturday Night Live
this coming weekend.
SNL
Live TV.
I mean.
Huge step for her... yes?
I'm beyond thrilled for her
because I believe she will be wonderful...
but damn... I'm nervous, too.
I want her to do well
but comedy is fucking hard.
I cannot wait.

As a fan... I really can't ask for anything more...
Except for MORE.
I can't wait to see everything she does
and will do.
She is endlessly fascinating
and magnetically watchable.

The worst?

Well, you know.

Still have the HardlyKnowsNothing's of the fandom
who still want to claim Kristen is married to Rob
with 3 bouncing babies attached to her hips
(and incredibly... number 4 'on the way')
And there are still the people out there
who want to argue with them everyday.
"ROB IS WITH TWIGS"
"ROB IS HAPPILY MARRIED TO KRISTEN!"
"ROB WAS IN LONDON WITH TWIGS"
"KRISTEN AND ROB SPENT THE HOLIDAYS
TOGETHER WITH THEIR CHILDREN!"

Seriously?
Day in.
Day out.
Same bullshit
Over and Over
and then over again.
What exactly is anyone really trying to prove?
It's one thing to have an opinion
But you aren't getting anywhere fighting on twitter
everyday repeating yourself.
As far as I can see...
It's jut an excuse for one side to shit
all over Twigs...
While the other side shits all over Kristen.
Wow.
What a fantastic way to spend your time!
You all do know the definition of insanity...
Right?
Insanity is,
doing the exact same fucking thing over and over again,
 expecting shit to change.
That. Is. Crazy.

It's not going to change.
Ever.
Rob has been with Twigs for YEARS now...
and it's been well documented.
Kristen has been dating women...
and she's one of the most photographed women
in the world.
No question who she is spending her time with.
There hasn't been a real picture of Rob and Kristen
together since 2013.
If that doesn't have an effect on the
insane delusional conspiracies?
What will?
Nothing.

Best?
Rob has had a relatively quiet year...
He has been working on interesting movies
with good directors
He's been pretty low key.
Which I'm sure is exactly what he wants.
He's been in a long term relationship
with Twigs
and seems happy with the choices he's made.
Maybe once more of his movies come out...
We will get to see more of him.
Pulling his fingers through his hair...

Laughing.
Being all awkward and cute.

Best?
Tom Sturridge.
Tom has been working much like Rob...
Quietly.
Steadily.
Working on projects that mean
something to him.
Staying close to his daughter.
Wearing hats.
And goofy 'jumpers'.
Not really smiling much...
but when he does?

Look out.
Wham.
Bam.
Thank you, Ma'am.

Worst?

The same tired asshats who continually judge Kristen
for basically breathing.
Kristen was at Sundance...
Talking about motivation behind her movie
"Come Swim"

She talked about heartbreak...
relationships...
things she wanted to say.

And what did the asshats do?
Piss and moan about how Kristen
is using Rob for promotion!
Is that it, really?
How many songs...
Poems
Books
Movies
are based on peoples feelings...
things that happen in their lives
heartbreak and love and pain?
Yeah.
Just about everything, you know?
But oh no...
Kristen is NOT allowed to do what others
have done before her.
How dare she?
Who does she think she is bringing up Rob!
Its only her life, after all.
Her relationship.
Her heartache.
Her pain.
Her love.
And just like so many do every single day
using their feelings and experiences for art
she uses what she lived.
And honestly...
Do you really think Rob cares?
Uh huh.
Sure. Sure.

I don't usually talk about Twigs
except in passing about Rob.
I've kinda made it a thing to not discuss
Rob and Kristen's relationships.
It's so much easier to not care
and not be invested...
But I did want to say this about Twigs

Her and Nike are a great fit.
She's a helluva dancer.

This post is brought to you by
the number 9.

It is still a number that shows up in my life
all the time.
Heh.

Until next time.

Bye for now.

Great post!
I can't wait for SNL. I never thought Kristen would do it.
I hope there's a lot of Donald Drumpf jokes.

Thanks for your comments about Carrie Fisher. I grew up with Star Wars and she was, for me, the first strong female character role model. That she was so strong in real life, despite -- or perhaps because of-- her many battles, is an inspiration. And, because of my parents, I also grew up loving Singing in the Rain with her mother Debbie Reynolds. It deeply saddened me to hear of the concurrent deaths.

As for Rob and Kristen et al. Wow. I still can't believe some people believe what they do. I haven't really been paying attention to what's going on in their lives, I'm too focused on the train wreck that is the US govt right now and the battle over human rights and pipelines and climate change. I have no time to be irritated or entertained by those that believe in phantom babies or secret marriages. Enough already. There are more serious things to be worried or concerned about. Thanks Rose.

Still here too, Rose!

I think it's still hard for some to accept that Rob and Kristen broke up four years ago and probably haven't spoken since. That's not to say that they don't respect each other which they do and will always be each other's biggest fan, they're different people now from when they first met. I'm glad some have taken the high road and decided to just follow their careers rather than their personal lives. It's safer that way.

hey rose
hello dreamer

long time

guess who is turning 60--yup it's me. i'm having fun with it. i ask every stranger i see "how old do you think i am?"

i'll try to be quick
very impressed with rob, he stays out of the spotlight, does his job [he doesn't have to work, he just likes it] he's in a solid relationship and does not care if we approve or not. to quote austin powers "yeah baby"

kristen lets see all she did in 2016 [if i may piggy back on what you've said, rose] played guitar in her own band, wrote a ton of poetry, did some painting wrote and directed a short film, had five films released as an actor, with directors like ang lee, woody, kelley reichart,[sp?] did a ton of talk shows and now she's hosting snl

three things that are starting to piss me off
1. ks was one of if not the most critically acclaimed actress of the year--yet she did not get even one nomination. she had to standby and watch a load of people she has worked with try for their second or third. sad

2. she also managed to squeeze in 4 girl friends last year.
a lot of people call that being a whore. she's 26, it's called dating.

3. donald trump

adios

Robert,
after last year, when Kristen was not nominated although she was in most of other awards, a few articles came out saying that the real reason was that Hollywood wants to punish her . so, this year, I did not even bother to look for the nominations , and I will never do , bc I know that is never going to happen .
I hope , if K is invited to go, as a guest, that she will ignore them .

award lists ... sorry

Hey, Robert! Happy Birthday! You sound well and that's everything! XOXO

Hat off to Kristen for being out and proud on TV, shame some can't accept it. To say it was a joke is ridiculous and an insult. Shame on you. Time for the likes of 'smart' lurker and HKN to get their coats; it's over.

Most people like myself who used to support RK as a couple, have since accepted the truth that they had broken up four years ago. They're not the same people they were at seventeen and twenty-one respectfully and HW made them grow up quickly and learn that no one can challenge the HW system and have a personal life. I think she's a lot more confident in herself now to publicly acknowledge who she is and does not feel she has to hide her sexuality any longer. She's been getting great reviews on her SNLhosting gig and I'm sure Rob is proud of her. We became to heavily invested in their relationship, that we didn't think they could ever be destroyed. It was rather bittersweet that she still referenced him as her boyfriend and not ex, tells me there will always be some lingering feelings there for Rob. It was a good show overall and I hope she hosts again. She did a great job and Alec Baldwin's Trump is always a winner.

Kristen killed it on SNL, she has a cool vibe and very dry humor!! A very little flub in the monologue, but that only shows she is human. I truly enjoyed the show and all her skits❤️

Kristen was so freaking good on SNL. I'm so happy she conquered that fear. Can't wait to see what she does next.

I congratulate Kristen for her honesty and having the courage to come out on her own terms. If anyone thinks this was easy for her, they really don't understand the LGBT community. Aside from that she has made the point that Rob was her boyfriend and apparently their breakup was very painful. I think that's wound that's never going to fully heal. They were rarely left alone when rhey were together, so I can't say I was too surprised when they decided to end their relationship. Now she is free to live openly and continue to make good films that we look forward to seeing. Personal Shoppper looks interesting and I look forward to seeing it.

LCOZ is becoming the movie to see in 2017 and Rob is getting such good reviews for his acting in his role of Henry Costin. Keeping my fingers crossed for a best supporting actor Oscar nod for him next year. Also, looking forward to seeing Damsel and Good Time. I read an interview regarding Damsel and Rob did some music in that film. Good things coming for him this year. Very proud to be his fan.

Thought I'd see some fabulous pics of Rob at the LCOZ premieres posted here - you usually have amazing pics of Rob! Rob & Charlie Hunnam looked amazing at the 'Lost City of Z' Berlin premiere, and Rob was perfection at the London premiere. So looking forward to seeing this movie! :)

I understand there's also a release date of April 14, 2017 for Queen of the Desert - http://www.ifcfilms.com/films/queen-of-the-desert.

Rose, so good to read your post again, its been too long! I was watching Kristen on SNL tonight for the second time. She KILLED it! I worried too but wow she did a great job. Rob had some new Dior photos come out yesterday, looking at good as ever. I still miss all the excitement for the next movie but it's still fun to follow their careers. Thanks again Rose
