Rob and Kristen- TO-GETH-ER

 I had a long weekend.
LONG.
Like millions of people around all the time kinda long.
The kinda long where you don't get more than
a few moments to yourself.
So it's been a while since I've posted...
and what happened?

Heh.

Well... remember right after BD2 promo ended
and Rob and Kristen were seen in some market
somewhere in England?
And it was all fake this
old that
look at that leg there and that weird arm here...
Remember?

So then we get the above picture
from a lucky fan who happened to be on the same
flight from London to NYC.
Imagine that!
So she even got a pic
to silence the 'pic or it didn't happen' criteria
that seems to rule this fandom.
But no.
Again...
Old pic.
Fake pic.
London was much colder than that pic.

We even got the looniest of the loons
marking her words
that Rob and Kristen would never show up
together in NYC.
No.
Never.

OOPS.

Lo and behold.
Rob and Kristen not only turned up in NYC...
But they turned up
TOGETHER.

Did you ever watch "Sandlot"?
Great movie.
Seriously.
Theres this scene where they are up in a clubhouse
telling this scary story about this giant dog (the BEAST)...
And this kid keeps repeating
FOR-EV-VER
over and over again.

My point?
That's how I feel about Together.
TO-GETH-ER

TO-GETH-ER

You gotta love protective Rob.
That's his girl.
He's not going ANYWHERE.
Got it?

Some dogs will chase their tails
FOR-EV-VER
(see what I did there?)
but they never get anywhere... you know?
They just get angrier and more bitter
because they never get what they want.

While on the right side of this fandom...
We look at these pictures and smile
and get happy that they are
TO-GETH-ER

That's what Rob and Kristen want.
That's how it should be.
That's how it is.

How would you rather spend your time online?
Laughing and being all happy
for two people who found love and happiness?
Being sappy and silly over their continued sightings
loving that holding hands is their modus operandi
and that they save the biggest smiles for each other?

Or would you rather just sit on twitter
bitching and moaning and whining
and making up lame excuses
and lying about and hating on someone
who has never done anything to you.
Being bitter and angry all the time
because Rob and/or Kristen
don't behave the way YOU think they should?

It's good being on the RIGHT side of this fandom.
The GOOD side.
The HAPPY side.

A dear friend of mine sent this to the women he loves...
I thought I would share.
(not sure of the author)

I cannot exist without you -
I am forgetful of every thing but seeing you again -
my life seems to stop there -
I see no further.
 You have absorb'd me.

I have a sensation at the present moment
as though I were dissolving ....
I have been astonished that men could die martyrs for religion -
 I have shudder'd at it - I shudder no more -
I could be martyr'd for my religion -
love is my religion - I could die for that -
I could die for you.
My creed is love and you are its only tenet -
you have ravish'd me away by a power I cannot resist.

Rob loves Kristen.
Kristen loves Rob.
"I cannot exist without you"

They are ALL in.
Completely.

This post is brought to you by powers you cannot resist.

For Rob... that is Kristen.

And this post is brought to you by red plaid shirts.

And Thomas Sturridge
who loves his red plaid shirt.
A red plaid shirt that I could write a whole post about...
and I just might.
I adore Thomas Sturridge.
Long hair.
Scruff.
Earring.
Blue sunglasses.
and "why the fuck are you taking our picture'
kinda look on his face.
Protective Father face.

As of this writing...
There have just been some random sightings
of Rob and Kristen in NYC.
I kinda like it.
Yeah... OK...
I would look at any pics of them that popped up.
But I do like that they are having down time
time to do what they want
Ready for it?

TO-
GETH-
ER

Because
You know.
I know.
To-geth-er
is how
they
ALWAYS
end up.

Until next time.

Bye for now

I bet Rob would have loved to attend Variety event just to drive a RR, of coarse they probably wouldn't let him based on how bad a driver he says he is.
It would be so amazing if Kristen won an award, she truly deserves to.
I Loved her plaid pants on her...on me..not so much, I'd look like a table cloth.

One of my favorite songs sung by Jimmy Durante played in Sleepless in Seattle movie.

Lyrics:Make someone happy,
Make just one someone happy;
Make just one heart the heart
you sing to.
One smile that cheers you,
One face that lights when it nears you,
One girl you're ev'rything to.

Fame if you win it,
Comes and goes in a minute.
Where's the real stuff in life to cling to?
Love is the answer,
Someone to love is the answer.
Once you've found her, build your world around her.

Make someone happy,
Make just one someone happy,
And you will be happy, too.

Here's YouTube link to hear him sing it:

Here's what I wish I could do for Rob and Kristen when they are traveling. I would like a very trusted, committed fan to organize a team in NYC and LA to, if we know they are coming to these airports, to choose other fans who are committed (interviewed by organizer that they are true fans)to be at these airports with placards or such to raise over their heads and block the paps. If the paps try to run us down, it's a lawsuit for them. Oh, Santa, grant them protection this holiday, one way or the other.

Pisteuo,

Thanks for the reminder of that recipe. It is one of my son's favorites and I never think of them.

Quick survey here. I've been having this debate with someone and I'd like to know what you guys think. It is the pronunciation of the word "pecan".

Do you say pea-kahn or pea-can or puh-kahn?

I'm from the Midwest and say pea-kahn

Kami said...

Let's see if I can do this without taking up half the page...

Pisteuo thank you for kicking the recipe exchange off.

Here is a SLIGHTLY different take on Suebee's famous Chocolate chip cookies. I hope she doesn't mind me posting them.

**Ultimate Chocolate chip cookies or cookie bars***

INGREDIENTS:
•3/4 stick Crisco® Baking Sticks Butter Flavor All-Vegetable Shortening
• OR 3/4 cup Crisco® Butter Flavor All-Vegetable Shortening
•1 1/4 cups firmly packed light brown sugar
•2 tablespoons milk
•1 tablespoon vanilla extract
•1 large egg
•1 3/4 cups Pillsbury BEST® All Purpose Flour
•1 teaspoon salt
•3/4 teaspoon baking soda
•1 (6 oz.) package semi-sweet chocolate chips (1 cup)
•1 cup coarsely chopped pecans (optional)

PREPARATION DIRECTIONS:

1.HEAT oven to 375ºF.

2.COMBINE shortening, brown sugar, milk and vanilla in large bowl. Beat at medium speed of electric mixer until well blended. Beat in egg. Combine flour, salt and baking soda. Mix into shortening mixture until just blended. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts.

3.DROP by rounded measuring tablespoonfuls 3 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheet.

4.BAKE 8 to 10 minutes for chewy cookies, or 11 to 13 minutes for crisp cookies. Cool 2 minutes on baking sheet on a cooling rack. Remove cookies to rack to cool completely.

TIP* If nuts are omitted, add an additional 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips.

VARIATIONS

BAR COOKIES

1.HEAT oven to 375ºF. Follow recipe above to prepare dough. Spray a 13 x 9-inch pan with no-stick cooking spray. Spread dough evenly in pan.

2.BAKE 19 to 21 minutes or until top is golden brown and toothpick inserted in center comes out clean and center feels slightly firm to the touch. Cool completely before cutting into bars.

LARGE ROUNDS

1.HEAT oven to 375ºF. Follow recipe above to prepare dough. Spray small area in center of baking sheet with no-stick cooking spray. Cover with 12-inch square of foil.

2.PLACE one-fourth of dough in center of foil. Form into a small circle with spatula or rubber scraper. Spray 12-inch square of wax paper with no-stick cooking spray. Place sprayed side down on top of dough. Flatten with round cake pan or pie pan to form a 7-inch circle. Remove wax paper.

3.BAKE 9 to 10 minutes or until light golden color. Cool 5 minutes on baking sheet on a cooling rack. Remove to rack to cool completely. Repeat with remaining cookie dough.

CHOCOLATE DRIZZLE OR DIP

1.DRIZZLE: Melt 1 cup semi-sweet or white chocolate pieces with 1 teaspoon shortening over very low heat. Stir well. If too thick to drizzle, add 1/8 to 1/2 teaspoon more shortening to thin. Drizzle from end of spoon back and forth over cookie. Sprinkle with nuts before chocolate hardens. To harden chocolate quickly, place in refrigerator for a few minutes.

2.DIP: Spoon melted chocolate into custard cup. Dip one end of cooled cookie halfway up in chocolate. Sprinkle with finely chopped nuts before chocolate hardens, or drizzle with contrasting white or dark chocolate. Place on wax paper.

Hi ladies,

I’m late to the party, it seems. Boy, it’s been a busy day here in Roseland, so I hope that everyone is well.

Parker, PL, Kami – I totally agree with your earlier points – as I’m sure is no surprise. Why do we need to bring the gossip in here when it is so readily available elsewhere? Really? “Why? George. Why?” to quote Rose.

PL – definitely pea-kahn. And I laughed at the picture you posted. Quite a propos.

Tufenuff –loved Jimmy Durante’s rendition of that song, and it was used so effectively in the movie. Some songs just stand the test of time.

DK – what are you planning to do to your hair? Do tell. Do tell. Or as a minimum post a new hat picture so we can see some of your “new do”!

Pisteuo – no bake cookies….I might actually be able to handle them (since I am such an incredibly good cook/baker – cough “not” cough). Thanks for posting them and kicking of the recipe season.

So hi to: Super, Birdie, ali mac, Katy, Annie, wig4usc, Hope, Sue, Ginger, Pam H, gargamel, Stella, Holy, RC, Benny and everyone else who has posted. Have a great day.

Tasters Choice Mocha Flavored Sour Cream Cake

First I have to tell you that throughout my entire childhood and adolescent years I never drank any other coffee than the kind my mother made which was Tasters Choice Freeze Dried Instant Coffee...the nastiest instant coffee ever to be conceived...When I went off to college, I bought a percolator...most of you probably don't know what that was, but it was the first time I tasted coffee like God intended and I never turned back to Tasters Choice....with the rare exception of the following recipe...

Also I have to tell you that several years ago I asked my sister if she had a copy of the recipe....our mother has been deceased for many years and I got to thinking about that cake and wished...oh how I wished that I could taste it again....more than 30 years had passed...My sister opened a drawer in her kitchen the following day and there it was on an index card...I made it and it tasted exactly how I remembered it...divine!

Combine. 3 cups flour, 3 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp baking soda and 1 tsp salt, set aside.

In a bowl combine. 1 cup butter( beat until creamy), Add 3 eggs...one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition.

Add flour mixture alternately with one cup sour cream

Filling

Combine 1 6oz pkg semi sweet morsels, 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar and 2 tbsps Tasters Choice Freeze Dried Coffee granules...mix

Spoon 1/3 of the cake batter into a greased 10" Bundt pan...Sprinkle 1/2 Filler mixture...another 1/3 of batter...the other half of the filler, then cover with remaining third of batter

Bake 350 for 1 hour 10 min

Turn out onto cake rack
Cool to room temperature
Drizzle cake with coffee glaze

Glaze.

Dissolve 2 tsps Tasters Choice Freeze dried coffee in 3 tbsps boiling water. add 1 3/4 cups sifted confectioners sugar, stir and drizzle immediately

Freddie said...

Hey Birdie - thanks for the recipe. Another good one for me.

I had all of our Roseland recipes in an online folder but they are on my old hard drive that my son is storing, somewhere lost.
***

My new hair color turned out dark (hello, you lovely brunette) from the medium golden blonde choice I used. Who knew?

Sometimes at this festive time of year, I get daring, then drunk, after I see the results. Wine makes the dark go away. Commencing at once. Whoopee!

olivia said...

Thank you dear Rose for the excellent post.

Thank you also for those beautiful words by Keats. Plus, so agree that "It is good being on the RIGHT side, GOOD side and the HAPPY side."

Intruth,
Yes, "Bright Star" is marvelous.

PL,
Oh my! First, loved the pic. Perfect. May the camaras burn of those mean and rude ratzzi. And may Rob and Kristen always be strong, united, clear thinking and calm when in the middle of such an unpleasant storm of vileness.

Second, I must laugh.
"pea-kahn or pea-can or puh-kahn?"

Fellow Michigander that I am, I spent the first half of my life saying pea-cans. Now, living in Texas, where there are pecan groves aplenty, I was laughed at politely when I used that pronunciation. I now say all three. However, I do draw the line and continue to say "ce-mént" instead of "cé-ment";
"vé-hi-cle and never "ve-hí-cle". But, I must add that I do use "y'all" and "you guys" equally, and the dreaded "fixin to" has also crept into my vocabulary.

Hugs for you, Pisteou. That No Bake Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookie recipe brought back wonderful memories from my childhood. It is so delicious. Will make some this weekend.

Hugs for y'all dear Roselanders.
Life is good. School is keeping me beyond busy plus we just started holiday hours at the boutique.

Respect Rob and Kristen.
Remember, garbage in means garbage out. Don't repeat the mean and nasty of unkind souls.

DK, new hair color?

Freddie said...

Super - so glad you found your mother's recipe. It sounds delicious. There's something about the food we ate as a child that is so comforting.

How wonderful that the Roseland Recipe Exchange has begun. Y'all have such wonderful contributions, plus love the personal connection/history that many of the recipes have for you.

Have a lovely evening. I still have papers to grade and a quiz to write.
Forgot to say earlier- Hugs for Smitty, Gruff and Syd and their family and friends.
Take care dear Roseland. This is such a good place. Keep it filled with "good vibrations and karma".

P.S. Saw Life of Pi. It was very good; a bit too long, but enjoyed it. Still trying to get to the theatre to see Lincoln, Argo and Cloud Atlas. Eeek, to many great movies out. Plus, have to get back to see BDII for the third time.

Olivia,
Somehow I can't picture you saying "fixin to" not when your writing is so wonderful. I imagine you must switch between Midwest and Texan in your speech quite often.

Kami said...

Olivia, lol you're 100% right about how we act whenever someone says pea-can here, and we have been known to butcher the English language once or twice. LOL those things we might be talked into changing every once in a while, but as I'm sure you've learned from experience, "Yall" is the one word we will never give up!

And for those of you who aren't completely sure how we use "Yall" in Texas, it is used when we talk about more than one person. Here we never say it to or about one person. I've actually seen people tell someone who uses it in the singular tense that they're wrong.

The recipes sound so good. I love holiday recipes.

Kami said...

LOL PL!! We all say "Fixin' to" here...and we also say a lot of "I tell you what" which in Texas is a complete sentence.

Oh my gosh, Kami, I just heard that expression from that Texan I have told you about. He started a sentence with, I'll tell you what and I burst out laughing.

Pecan Squares
Crust
3 C Flour
¼ C + 2T sugar
¾ C butter or margarine
Blend crust ingredients. Press firmly into bottom of well-greased jelly roll pan. Bake crust at 350 for15 minutes.

Filling
4 eggs slightly beaten
1 ½ C Brown Sugar
1 ½ C light corn syrup
3 T melted butter or margarine
1 ½ tsp vanilla
2 ½ C chopped pecans

Mix all filling ingredients adding pecans last. Pour filling into baked crust and bake for 20-25 minutes or until firm. Cut into squares when cooled.

Make sure to thoroughly grease the pan especially the corners as this can be difficult to get out of pan. Parchment paper or a silpat can be used to line the pan to make serving easier. Recipe can be cut in half and baked in 9 inch square pan also.

Kami,
You don't have to be Texan to find Matthew and his drawl sexy. I remember being at one of his movies and he appeared shirtless and some woman in the audience said very loudly, "Hello! And that's why we're here".

I have to call it a night, but what a pleasure it was!

DK,
We will see the do, right? Didn't you go darker or was it red before?

Pisteuo,
Will try yours soon as well. I love anything with peanut butter.

Freddie,
You can do these no-bake bars, no doubt!

Parker and PL,
Two more of my favorites, toffee and love pea-kahn pie,so the bars look wonderful.

Ginger,
Bring on the pork and potatoes! The video was hilariously scary. I hope they had an AED outside the door.

All the recipes sound great and will surely help my diet.

Olivia,
I loved Argo and will try to see Lincoln this weekend. My sister said the same thing about Life of Pi, so I am hesitating. So many great films out and coming.

Good night!

Looking Through The Eyes Of Love

Regine Velasquez:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBVtZg6zUGM

Please, don't let this feeling end
It's everything I am
Everything I want to be
I can see what's mine now
Finding out what's true
Since I found you
Looking through the eyes of love

Now, I can take the time
I can see my life
As it comes up shining now
Reaching out to touch you
I can feel so much
Since I found you
Looking through the eyes of love

And now, I do believe
That even in a storm we'll find some light
Knowing you're beside me
I'm all right

Please, don't let this feeling end
It might not come again
And I want to remember
How it feels to touch you
How I feel so much
Since I found you
Looking through the eyes of love

Come As You Are

Patti La Belle:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSpp9SgmVH4

You're a victim of the life you lead
In your heart of hearts you can't concede
That you could be so much more

Can't breathe in this atmosphere
You're afraid you're gonna disappear
Into yourself
And become someone else

Come as you are
I'll be here for you
Come as you are
Let me adore you
My open arms are waiting for you
All you have to do is come as you are

Doesn't matter how you paint your face
There's a beauty that you can't erase
That mirrors the heart of your soul
(Who says) angels aren't suppose to cry

(Who says) that you have to let your life slip by
And never reveal
The passion you feel

Come as you are
I'll be here for you
Come as your are
Let me adore you
My open arms are waiting for you
All you have to do is come as you are

You've got to gather up your confidence
And wear it like a halo
Open your eyes so you can see... yourself

I will always be right here for you
Just show me what's real
Try to reveal
The passion you feel

Come as you are
I'll be here for you
I'm waiting for you
All you gotta do
All you have to do it
Come as you are

I will adore you
All you have to do
Is come
Come as you are

Love all your responsiveness, to me, and to one another. This is a sweet place! *Waves to Olivia*--

I'm going to try to type in my complicated Nanaimo Bar recipe. These are yummy bars that used to be sold on the Washington State Puget Sound ferries as well as the B.C. ferries. It's simple, but has three steps. And it is SO GOOD.

Naniamo Bars

Bottom Layer: 1/2 cup butter
1 egg
1/2 cup sugar
5 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups graham cracker crumbs, rolled fine
1 cup coconut
1/2 cup chopped nuts

Filling:
1/2 cup butter
3 Tablespoons instant vanilla pudding mix (dry)
2 cups powdered sugar

Top Layer
4 1 oz. squares semisweet chocolate
1 Tablespoon butter

Place 1/2 cup buter, egg, sugar, cocoa and vanilla in top of double-boiler. Cook until butter melts and thickens slightly. Mix together crumbs, coconut, and nuts.
Combine crumbs wtih sugar mixture and press into greased 8 x 8 inch pan. Refrigerate 1-2 hours.

Mix 1/2 cup butter with pudding powder and powdered sugar. Blend well. Spread on chilled 1st layer.

Melt chocolate and 1 tablespoon butter. Spread over previous layers and refrigerate until firm. Cut and serve.

ali mac said...

INTRUTH do you happen to know if vanilla pudding mix is what we call custard powder here in the UK ? If so I make tray bakes like that without the final layer and no coconut in the base. We call them Naomi bars. I think it probably was adapted from the same recipe. I do know they are my brothers favourite :)

ok let's try this again.

Ali, lol I got curious about the custard powder and instant pudding comparison so I googled it, and yes you can use pudding powder in the place of instant pudding mix. The site I saw was talking about how they wanted to make Naniamo Bars lol...and they couldn't find custard powder in the States.

I have never heard of Naniamo Bars and they sound delicious Thank you Intruth for posting them, I'm going to try it.

Ok on a completely silly note, and it's a littlle gossipy, but someone mentioned something yesterday on the blog about Gavin Rossdale had been caught with his hand on the Nannie's hind end and there was photographic evidence that every tabloid site splashed everywhere.....Well today they released the name of the woman who it looked as if he was playing with her 'bum'....LOL the lady in the picture that everone assumed he was playing grab ass with, has been identified...it was his SISTER. LOL

on food, we all agree we love it !!!
and of course lots of great opinions on topics that are not RK-related :)

gosh that nanaimo bars sound yummylish !
my xmas cookie basket will have so many varieties !

@ali, i think you can substitute custard powder for pudding mix.
may not be the same consistency cos i understand custard powder is cornstarch-based.
while pudding mix is gelatinous.

@wig, i’m very interested in your pumpkin cobbler.
the only pumpkin dessert i know is pumpkin pie.
so i’d like to see your cobbler recipe.

ali mac said...

Thanks PARKER and KAMI for your help. I can't believe you don't have custard powder (it's old fashioned but like comfort food for me). I do make my own custard from scratch if necessary for trifles etc

ali mac said...

Does anyone make Mars Krispies?

I chop up and melt about 4 mars bars with about 2ozs of butter, it's quite a funny consistency as the mars bars are hard to melt. I then put in enough Rice krispies to soak up the mix, press it into a greased tin (10inches by 10inches) Chill this for 1-2 hours. Melt about 100g of milk chocolate (Cadburys is my prefered choice) and pour over the top of Krispies, chill again and then cut into squares.

Very simple and yummy.

Mary said...

Intruth,
That Nanaimo bar sounds really good. The name of it almost sounds Native American, I wonder.

Ali, I've never made Mars Krispies but they sound good too. I'm not a big chocolate fan but since everyone else in the family is, I have to indulge them, lol. Plus I like bar recipes over cookies because they seem quicker to make.

Kay,
Really? Ohia? I'm trying to picture someone saying it that way because I never thought Ohioans had different accents, but I guess each area has variants. Like Da Yoopers from the UP here.

That reminds me, anyone want to rent a ridiculous movie get Escanaba in Da Moonlight, it's a Jeff Daniels movie and it is really funny, but definitely not an intellectual movie.

has anyone ever had a machine washable cashmere and can tell me if they maintain their shape after washing? would hand-washing be better?

parker,
I have washed wool sweaters in the washing machine with pretty good luck. Make sure it's cold water, slow spin cycle. I've put them in the dryer on low or no heat for about 5 minutes to fluff them and then air dried the rest of the way. Use fabric softener too because I think that helps keep the yarn from tightening.

Hope it works out.

so i ended up wearing it all week & just found some dirt/stain on it this morning.
so now i have to wash it & wasn’t sure if i should trust the machine washable label.
and i looooove this scarf & don’t want it to turn into hankie :)

Kami said...

Ali, I've never made the mars crispies but I am going to get the stuff and make them this weekend because they sound amazing...and I intend to indulge myself this holiday season...they may have to oil the doorways to get me through them by the time January rolls around lol.

I was reading up again, because I'm that crazy, and most sites actually say that the custard powder works better than pudding mix in the recipe that Intruth shared...which I'm also making soon.

Ali, I'm glad to know that some place other than Texas has that same accent differential. Texas is a rather large place, and there are 5 distinct areas here...West Texas, where I am from has a twang, the panhandle has less of an accent since they are close to Colorado, East Texans have a drawl like the old south, the hill country has a twangy drawl, and down here in the Gulf region....NO ONE seems to have the same accent, but the one I've noticed the most has been a mixture between a Texas Twang and a Louisiana cajun accent. LOL we are a weird state.

Arsenic and Old Lace, Boys Town, It happened one night. Philadelphia story. Penny Seranade. I think if a movie has Cary Grant in it, then I will love it. Hi, gang!

Here's my recipe, @Parker, I think you'll love it:

(not my original recipe)

3 beaten eggs
15 ozs pumpkin
12 ozs evaporated milk
1 cup sugar
18 tsp salt
1 12 tsps cinnamon
1 tsp ground ginger
1 tbsp vanilla extract
18 14 ozs cake mix (yellow)
1 14 cups unsalted butter (melted)
1 cup nuts (chopped) I use pah-kahns!

Mix the first 8 ingredients together; pour into an ungreased 9x13 inch baking pan.

Sprinkle cake mix over the top; drizzle with butter. (try to moosh out the big lumps)

Bake at 350 degrees F for 25 minutes.

Top with nuts; bake for an additional 15 minutes.

I like to serve warm with whipped cream, could also serve with vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!

KAMI one of my favourite things to do when I get time to myself is to watch old black and white movies. I have to agree Cary Grant is tops. He acts without acting, so smooth, if you know what I mean. The young Paul Newman is right up at the top of my list too.

SUE I'm not a major turkey fan, I do love the baked ham though!

Old-Fashioned Sugar Cookies

These large cookies have a classic lemony flavor, a chewy texture, and glistening, crackly tops created with a double sprinkling of sanding sugar. (Martha Stewart Living, August 2005)

YIELD-Makes about 20 (3 1/2-inch) cookies

INGREDIENTS

3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
1/4 cup packed light-brown sugar
1 tablespoon finely grated lemon zest, plus 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 cup unsalted butter, (2 sticks), softened
2 large eggs
Sanding sugar, for sprinkling

DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Sift flour, baking soda, and salt into a bowl; set aside.

Put sugars and lemon zest in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Mix on medium speed 30 seconds. Add butter; mix until pale and fluffy, about 1 minute.

Mix in eggs, 1 at a time, and then the lemon juice. Reduce speed; gradually add flour mixture, and mix until just combined.

Scoop dough using a 2-inch ice cream scoop; space cookies 2 inches apart on parchment-lined baking sheets. Flatten cookies slightly with a spatula.

Sprinkle tops with sanding sugar, then lightly brush with a wet pastry brush; sprinkle with more sanding sugar.

Bake cookies until golden, about 15 minutes. Let cool on sheets on wire racks for 5 minutes. Transfer cookies to racks using a spatula; let cool completely.

Cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature up to 3 days.

Just home from work and catching up!

PL-- I think Nanaimo is Native American... it's a city on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada, so "American" as in North American continent. Their native tribes' names for places have often been preserved.

Ali mac-- that's so amazing you have the Naomi bars. And yet, Canada is full of people from Ireland, Scotland, England, and so on, I guess it's not that amazing! Some great Irish cook must've gotten a job cooking for the ferries and "invented" the bars by adding the coconut. Custard powder sounds yummy... as do the Mars Krispies! I was going to ask if you were Irish in another post where you mentioned Black Eye Friday. That sounded totally Irish to me ;)

There are so many yummy ideas here in all the recipes! Love it!

Oh, I love "Meet Me in St Louis", too. My daughter literally wore that movie out in VHS form. She watched it until the tape broke from so much rewinding! But I still love it. We got to see it a few years ago in a showing at a refurbished classic theatre on the big screen and Judy Garland's eyes as she sings "The Boy Next Door" made the audience gasp, so liquid and beautiful! Vincent Minelli did an awesome job of filming her so beautifully.

Kami-- I also love black and white films. I consider any movie made since 1960 "new"! I guess only the classics seem like real "old movies" to me. Philadelphia Story is on my Christmas list this year! I would LOVE to see Rob play Cary Grant's role and Kristen play Katherine Hepburn's role in a revival of that story!

wig4usc, your pumpkin yum sounds delicious, too!

Parker, so right-- a very fun place!!!

Intruth,
If not native American, I was going to guess Eskimo maybe. There are a lot of Indian named cities around me.

Different subject but I'd like to draw on the wide knowledge base of Roseland. I know many of us have dogs and I've been thinking of adding another dog to the family. I have a 10-year old female who has been fixed, spayed, surgically altered or whatever the term is. Would she be more accepting of a male or female dog? I always thought I'd get another female but I've noticed that females seem to be more aggressive towards her when we are walking. Is that a common complaint?

This is only my second dog as I had cats all my life, still do so the pecking order of dogs is not that familiar to me.

Kami said...

Robert, I hate to hear that about Lincoln, I was debating on whether or not to go see it. I think I'll wait for the DVD.

PL, I found with my dogs in the past, Wolfie's grandparents...that with an adult Female it's better to add a male puppy. That way the male will not be so likely to dominate her, where as a female added in they will tear each other apart. We kept a female puppy from one of our litters, and everything with the three dogs...before Wolfie was born...was great, but once the male died...the females fought constantly even though they were mother and daughter. We had to separate them. When we brought Wolfie into their family, all was right with the world again.

the current one – i can’t, i just can’t …
i’ve said my piece about it & can’t say anymore without adding to the cause-and-effect.
maybe i’ll try baking some of those cookies this weekend.
going to a dinner party & will take it with me – excited to try & hope mine turn out well !

parker,
Thanks for the input. My dog is very anxious so I don't know if a puppy would be good or bad. I probably should just leave it alone, but, you know how it is when you see some of those rescue dogs and you just want to take them all home?

I know what you mean about it only lasted one night. It's kind of why I brought up the dog topic. If you're inclined why don't you post this on the new blog and maybe it will start a different line of talk. Up to you.

@PL, i know what you mean about those rescue dogs.
if only i wasn’t traveling so much, i’d keep my dog (she’s with my parents) & maybe have more.

as to posting on the other one …
i know i’m really staunchly stubborn & weird about this.
but it’s like participating would be so against how i feel.
funny cos the initial reason why we’re here is cos of our “curiosity/admiration” for RK.
so why would i be so bothered by all the gossipy chit-chat & talk centred on RK …
the sarcastic writing of Rose is what drew me in but the funny comments was/is what makes me stay.
& i just don’t find anything interesting about all the repetitive dissection of every detail.
that probably makes me sound so snooty & maybe i am :)
but it is just so friggin monotonous & to some extent disturbing.

gosh & i was hoping to get more recipes before christmas lol.
we haven’t even gotten to the entrées yet lol.
we jumped right into desserts … well, understandably so cos that’s the best part of the meal :)

parker,
We did appetizers last Christmas but desserts are always the favorites.

My suggestion as far as comments go, talk about what you want. That's how it used to be. In time, I think it will be again depending on how many are willing to wait it out.
