I enjoy interacting with people here. I write some on a blog that nobody really reads, but that's mostly about things with my dad..
It's weird.. technology.. makes everything accessible to everyone.. which isn't necessarily a good thing.
But this cyber-bullying thing--where people use the net to just attack, bully, trash other people (not famous people) just has to stop. How many kids are going to die seriously? Its not okay at all. Aside from the whole thing with why the kid wouldn't be okay with himself for people to know he's gay (that's a whole other deal) but to do this--and then put it on fucking twitter-just to what? get a bunch of people to notice you? What the fuck is wrong with people that they need attention from that? How empty is your fucking life that you want to be none as the guy on twitter who tapes his roomate having sex??
And this is rutgers which is supposedly a really good school. These kids were smart? really?
To me, I think there is a difference between a little social update and TMI.
Some people don't know any better and feel the need to laundry list every facet of their existance.
On the other hand, their are people who just pop in, say what they are doing as a way of saying "Hey, I'm still alive and all is well."
There is a guy on FB who actually takes pictures of his meals and posts them practically daily.
yep--here is good. Its funny, its interesting, and people are friends with each other in a real way. That's all good. But imagine if --well fuck--you know where I'm headed--just imagine how much shit would/could happen.
The other cool thing is that I think all the regs here have real lives outside of here. Nobody is not like being with their fams or friends to be here (okay maybe during MFK game-lol) but you know--its a nice extra--not the main thing.

I like my friends here, I love hanging out and talking to them. If all of you guys lived closer to me, we'd be getting together ALL the time! It's a good kind of connection. But yeah.. we all have our lives outside of here, we try to keep things balanced. And I know it seems like we're few and far between sometimes, but we're here :)
And I'm thankful that Jonathan Rhys Meyers probably won't EVER stumble across this blog.. because he'll realize that he's on my freebie five list, and that could get awkward!

That is such a sad story about that kid from Rutgers. Frankly, the more and more advanced technology gets, the more frightened I get for the kids that have grown up knowing nothing else. The internet is such a normal and comfortable part of life and everything is done on it. I would prefer to think that people are generally good, unfortunately, the hate, rumors and cyber bullying are SO out there. It is basically emotional assault.

I'm good thanks, the suns shining and I've been working for hours (well...working and listening to The Beach Boys---not sure if I've mentioned it but I've been randomly obsessed with The Beach Boys since I was a little kid. My mum tells me she used to think I was a bit wierd because all the other little kids wanted fairy stories and nursery rhymes on in the car and I wanted my dads Beach Boys album on a loop! ha ha).
Soooo I'm going out for lunch in a minute with friends...find a nice pub in the country to sit outside :-)

How horrible, I didn't know about this Rutgers freshman story. Why would someone think that doing something like this would be funny? What kind of moral standards this guy has?...this is the kind of thing that makes me furious. Unfortunaly, I think that this asshole roommate will only face privacy-invasion charges and not murder.

The internet affords anonymity and that unfortunately allows some people to be mean and hurtful without a thought for the people they are targeting. It seems as if everyone wants their fifteen minutes of fame without regard for decency.

The New York Times has a story on the Rutgers student suicide in today's edition.
Annie you're correct, people have no decency...my 10 year old niece has bone cancer and lost part of her leg, earlier this week her parents arranged it so she could do her rehab at a local high school swimming pool, she was tired of being with elderly people who had broken their hips, anyway, 2 teenaged boys saw her, snuck in and stole her crutches and then tapped her getting out of the pool and looking for her crutches. They posted it on the a school site with the caption "Look at the Bald Cripple girl" ,the site, thankfully is carefully monitored. The principal saw it and took it off the site and then suspended the boys. Their parents showed up at the school livid, not at the boys who had admitted to doing this, but at the school because how could they suspend their boys? they were just boys being boys.

The parents of the boys were angry at the school and not at their children? In my opinion that's the problem right there......Those parents need a brain transplant! Those kids should have been suspended on the spot!

This is my problem with the way things are today. The Parents. It makes me sick. At what point did people STOP getting on to their children when they do wrong and START defending them?
If a child goes through life thinking they can behave in whatever manner they choose and the Parents do NOTHING but back that up...then they child becomes a adult who thinks it's ok to behave however they choose and there will be no consequences. Then they have children and the cycle continues.
How did basic human decency become a casualty of life? How do we stop it? I know all I can do is teach my children how to treat others. I firmly believe...Do unto others as you would have them do unto you!!

My father died when I was very young but my mother always, ALWAYS instilled manners and respect for others and kindness to others in my brother and myself. Those qualities once taught stay with you through life.

As parents, we have a responsibility to not only our children, but to everyone, to teach our kids what is right and what is wrong. What is acceptable behavior, and what is not. And that they are responsible for their actions. The choices they make have consequences.
And people today don't do enough of that. Add that to the readily availability of the internet, and it is a dangerous combination.
I'm doing what I can by teaching my child the difference.
And I avoid places where behavior like this is encouraged. It may be a small step, but it's one in the right direction, and if we can get more people to take it with us, hopefully, it will start to make a difference.
I agree Annie! I also was taught these things. And I am doing my best to teach them to my children. But even with Children in my Daughter's class...that is not the case. It makes me sad to see :(

And thanks for asking about my niece, her name is Taylor, and she is a character..the principal made the boys apologize to her and when the first one said "I'm sorry" rather rudely Taylor smiled and said "That's ok I'll pray for you" lol she told me "Aunt Kami in the back of my mind I was thinking "I'll pray someone beats you up" but I shouldn't have thought that." she's a great kid with a wonderful outlook on life, she's my hero.

That's just randomness. I was sitting here and it came across my email. It's confusing sometimes, when several things are being discussed at once and you can't read through them fast enough. Which is what I think you walked in on the other night.
